Many Studio Ghibli geeks are freaking out over recent news that Hayao Miyazaki, the mastermind behind many amazing classics like Spirited Away, Totoro, and Kiki’s Delivery Service, is back from retirement to work on a new animated film set to release in 2019. No words yet as to what the movie will be about, although some speculate it will be an adaption of “Boro the Caterpillar”, one of Miyazaki’s first cgi films. According to sources, it’ll be the director’s last film and likely completed by the time he’s 80.
After digging up more info on Boro The Caterpillar it looks like there’s already production footage of the new film?! The video I found is a sneak peak inside the studio in 2016. Most of the video highlights Miyazaki working on what appears to be the speculated caterpillar film. It shows an in depth look at the development team working on all sorts of projects. All of the work looks very tedious and complex. It’s very interesting and awesome to watch so check it out below!
